Next Up---The Food Truck Awards

We are so grateful to everyone who came out to see us at Paws on the Pavement.  We had a great day, and a very successful fundraiser that will help get us out of the red.  Our next goal is to raise some operating funds to pay for some surgeries needed by animals in our care.

We do have a couple more events on the horizon, and want to welcome our volunteers to join us again for whichever form of fun they want to!

Saturday, September 7th we will be attending the Nashville Food Truck Awards at Centennial Park.  We would love to have volunteers come out to walk dogs and hand out information to those that would like it about Noah's Ark Society and the animals in our care.  This will be a fun day with food an entertainment in Centennial Park.  We need transport volunteers to help get dogs in from foster homes that have not been able to attend many events, and would love a few friends to take photos for us during the day.

If you are able to help at the Street Food Awards, please email LISA@NOAHSARKSOCIETY.ORG

Hope to see you on the 7th!

There are so many reasons to give----whether it was Grace, Peaches, Scooter, or Mazie that touched your heart...or maybe it was Jethro and Tucker; the inseparable donkey and goat.  Wiggles the kitty who came to us sliced open by the fan blade on a car, or Davy, the Quarterhorse who was terrified of people before NAS but is now a loved and reliable trail horse.

Each of these sweet spirits was saved from our supporters, and we hope to continue these efforts through 2013.  Please, as you consider who to give to, consider Noah's Ark Society.  Your contribution is tax deductible and 100% goes to the animals in need.

Support Noah's Ark Society by Eating at Ruby Tuesday!

We try to make supporting Noah's Ark Society fun AND easy...and what's easier than enjoying a great meal in order to give?  You have to eat, right?

So...we've signed up with Ruby Tuesday to be part of their community give back initiative.  We had an amazing turnout two weeks ago in Brentwood, and there are still 2 Tuesdays to go....

Tuesday May 14th AND Tuesday May 28th.

Here's how it works.

1) Print the attached form
2) Eat At Ruby Tuesday
3) Give the form to your server

DONE....  Yes, it really is that simple!

On May 14th the Green Hills Restaurant will be supporting Noah's Ark Society and on May 28th the Mt. Juliet Restaurant will be serving in support of Noah's Ark Society.

Oh, and did we mention?  Ruby Tuesday takes reservations, so no worries about getting a date night table, or enough room for the whole family....why not do a department outing at work, and get your coworkers to go?  It's good good, awesome salad bar, and a good cause.

Here's the link to the flyer: http://image.rubytuesdayrestaurants.com/lib/feb915797d6d0278/m/21/448404082013.pdf

Queenie Is Home!

We have to give a HUGE thank you to everyone who kept an eye out for Queenie and shared her information.  The entire neighborhood was aware that Queenie was missing from the network of volunteers who went door to door and the shared posts through Facebook.

Thankfully through storms, flooding, and days of beautiful Spring weather, Queenie never left the area, and today Queenie was caught, safe and sound.

Queenie will be coming back to Noah's Ark Society, and back to her original foster mom, Megan.  We have a feeling Queenie may life with Megan forever, but we'll know more on that in the near future.  In Megan's words, Queenie is a little thin right now, but the GREAT news is she is safe, and on the way home.

She is wearing a Brown Collar with Green Spots and Noah's Ark Society Tag. Queenie is a blue tick Catahoula mix. She is very shy and timid. If you see her, call Noah's Ark Society at 615-438-7184 immediately with detailed information on where she was spotted.

We DO have a search party going out to look for Queenie on SUNDAY APRIL 28 AT 10:00 AM. The meeting address is  7540 Swift Rd, Greenbrier, TN.  If you have any time at all on Sunday, please join in the search.

Love Is Pawsible (Noah's Ark Will Not Be Attending!)

APRIL 26 Update - with the weather forecast of 80% Chance of Rain and high temps in the 50's tomorrow we have decided that it would not be in the best interest of our volunteers or dogs to attend this event.   We have made apologies to Happy Re-Tales, and hate to back out, but we also must do what is right for all of you who give so much of your time and support to us.  Thank you for your continued care of our rescue dogs, and we look forward to seeing you at our next adoption event.

Please join us for the 1st Annual Love is Pawsible Pet Adoption Fair this Saturday! It will be held at the Lakeside Center in Maryland Farms with dogs and cats from over 11 different Middle Tennessee Rescues including Noah's Ark Society looking for their Forever Homes. This is a FREE Pet and Family Friendly Adoption Fair with contests, face painters, balloons, samples of food and of course, shopping. We hope to see you there! We would like to thank our sponsors, Humane Healing, Nutrisource, WKRN and Nashville Paw for helping make this event possible.

We're still working on our list of dogs who will be in attendance, but right now we have confirmed that Harper, Barnabas, Dobro, and Bella will all be present.

We hope to see you there!

We're Recruiting...Join the NAS Team!

Want to be involved with Noah's Ark Society in a bigger way?  We are recruiting for some great volunteers to be a part of what we do.

Some of the current needs are:

  • Dog Adoption Coordinators - we're looking for 2 people who love dogs, and have about 5 hours a week to work on helping approve applicants for dog adoption
  • Cat Adoption Coordinator - We're looking for 1 person who loves cats, and has about 1 hour a week to work on our cat adoption team.
  • Horse Adoption Coordinator - We're looking for 1 person who loves cats, and has about 2 hours a week to work on our equine adoption team.
  • Horse Training Volunteers - We're looking for 1 person in the Gallatin area and 1 person the Franklin area that is horse experienced and willing and able to spend hands on time with our rescue horses in foster.  This role takes a commitment of about 2 hours per week.
  • Photographers - If you have photography skills and a camera that takes better photos than a phone, we need you!  Anywhere in Middle Tennessee is helpful, since our foster dogs and horses are scattered among great homes throughout the region.
  • Ebay Manager - If being an online afficionado is your forte, then we would LOVE you to manage our online Ebay store.  We'll send you the details on all donations for sale, and you simply list, the items so we can raise $ for the animals in our care.
There are lots of other ways to be involved as well, so if these don't interest you, but you do want to volunteer, please just email us at noah@noahsarksociety.org.  We'll happily put your skills and experience to work to help the animals!

DART Training is March 26th!!!!

DART is next week!!! We've had lots of questions about it, so here's the basics. DART is an acronym for Disaster Animal Response Training.  It is a certification designation that was established by FEMA, and is administered in Tennessee by TEMA.  Everyone is welcome to attend this class!

If you know you are coming, please RSVP, but only so we can plan for food and drinks.  You can come even if you don't RSVP.

There are two levels of DART - Registered Volunteers and Credentialed Responders.

A Registered Volunteer gets an ID badge from the state and goes on a call-down list to be able to assist with disasters in their county of residence.  As a registered volunteer you are not certified to help outside your home county.

Credentialed Responders get an ID badge from the state and go on a call-down list to be able to assist with disasters ANYWHERE in the state.  Additionally, Credentialed Responders will be invited to train with our Animal Criminal Investigation Team.  Starting in the 2nd Quarter of 2013, we will begin quarterly training seminars, led by TJ Jordi that will be open exclusively to those who have become Credentialed Responders through the Noah's Ark Society sponsored DART Certification classes.

To be a Registered Volunteer ALL you need to do is attend the class we are sponsoring on the 26th from 6pm to 9pm at the Ellington Agricultural Center. No Charge, just 3 hours of your time. To be a Credentialed Responder you have to complete 4 online courses AND attend the in person class. There is still no cost, it just takes more time to do.

If you want to be a credentialed responder, but don't have time before next week to finish the online classes, that is OK! Just come to class, and finish the online part when you can. You'll get a new FEMA id whenever you complete the online classes, which you can do ANY time. This may be the only in person class this year to be certified, so don't miss it!!!

When: March 26th, 2012 from 6pm to 9pm (Drinks and snacks provided by Noah's Ark Society)

Where: The Ed Jones Auditorium at the Ellington Agricultural Center
From I-65: Take Exit #78-A east on Harding Place. Take a right at the second light onto Trousdale Drive. Travel south on Trousdale for approximately 1.5 miles. Calling ALL Foster Homes

We adore ALL of our foster homes, and love getting new ones.  If you have ever wondered what fostering is like, please enjoy this write up from one of our Noah's Ark Foster Homes that fosters both dogs and horses:

"We love fostering for Noah's Ark Society.  The Noah's Ark Team is so supportive.  We get help and advice on training, animal welfare, and Noah's Ark Society offered to cover all costs for our foster animals--both dogs and horses, so we get to love them and enjoy them without the outlay of cost that we have for our own pets.  Seeing an animal that has come from a shelter or neglect environment respond once they are in our home is like watching a miracle take place before your eyes.  First it is a tail wag or a nicker and neigh, then you see the faded light return to the eyes.  An animal that was hopeless finds hope again, and soon realizes that love is not a one way street.  Fostering is not a sacrifice.  Fostering is an opportunity and a reward.  Fostering is knowing that we have saved a life.  I would say single handedly, but that wouldn't be true.  The life saving effort is a team effort, and we know we have never been alone in it that effort.  Between work, family obligations, and life in general it can be so challenging to feel you are making a difference in the world.  Fostering makes an enormous difference, and we are all better for it.  We can't recommend a better organization that Noah's Ark Society, or a more noble cause!"

We now have a foster applicaton on our website here: FOSTER APPLICATION.  This application takes about 5 minutes to fill out, and goes straight to our foster coordinator who heads up our foster team.  Because we are an all species all breed rescue, the sky is the limit on what you can foster.  We have families that just want to foster pigs, or just lab type breeds, or just dogs under 10 pounds.  As a foster home, you set the rules, and all your rules are ok.

So, now you may be asking, who needs foster now?  Well...we have a few babies who need foster now:

Shadow - Shadow is a 1 year old, house trained, pure bred black lab.  His original family went through a divorce, and Shadow became a rescue.  He's great with all other animals and little kids!

Darcy: Darcy is an 18 month old pure bred Beagle.  She is 22 pounds, loves people and other animals, and is a complete doll.

Bosco: Bosco is a 16 year old Quarterhorse Gelding who would like to be with all geldings, and no mares...well technically he'd like all mares and no geldings, but we think he'll do better with a group of boys, since he can't seem to stop thinking about girls all the time.

Brianna - Brianna is a 9 year old Pocket Beagle, which is a registered designer breed.  She is about 8 pounds, and was used as a breeder girl by a backyard breeder.  This poor girl has not really known love in her life and needs TLC to be shown how special she is.  She really wants to give and receive love.

Lily:  Lily is 90% Lab, and is very shy.  She would love her foster and forever home to be quiet and calm, probably without noisy young children.  She loves other dogs, so a canine foster brother or sister will be great for her.  If her foster home has a quiet place she can go when strangers are around, she will really benefit from that.  Lily is under 2 years old, and just learning about how great life really is.

Ozzy:  This big guy is still all puppy.  He is a White German Shepherd goofball.  Ozzy is loving and active.  If you want a running companion, Ozzy would love to go jogging with you.  He is about 10 months old, and full of happiness.

Hazel:  Are herding dogs more your preference?  Then ask us about fostering Hazel!  This cattle dog sweetheart is a good girl who likes to be active and given a job.  Cats and little dogs aren't for her, but she adores dogs her own size, and having mental stimulation.  Hazel is housetrained, and a snuggler when inside.

Whether you want a 6 pound dog or a 1200 pound horse, we have animals in ALL shapes and sizes looking for someone to give them a loving stopover on the way to forever.  We hope to hear from you today, and once again, the foster application can be found here: FOSTER APPLICATION.

Meet Joel, A Very Special AND BEAUTIFUL Rottweiler

This gorgeous boy is Joel, though you may have originally met him under the name Rocky (which was his name at Cheatham County Animal Control) or Robert (a name that floated around for him on the internet).

Joel is a new arrival to Noah's Ark Society, though we have been caring for him for about a week. Sadly, whomever owned Joel let him run loose, and Joel ended up having a collision with a car...he was injured, but lucky enough to have a second chance at life.

Joel was picked up by Cheatham Animal Control and then taken quickly by a Noah's Ark Society volunteer to the vet so an assessment of his injuries and a plan of action could be made.

On January 3rd, Joel became free by law to transfer to rescue, and immediately came to Noah's Ark Society. He is at the vet now with surgery scheduled for 01/04/12. The surgery is called FHO, and is an alteration of the broken femoral head on the him bone. It sounds painful, but it will allow Joel to regain full use of his leg and life a pain free life.

Here is a photo of Joel on his ride to the vet from animal control.  His transporter said he was loving listening to classical music on NPR, and wagged his tail the whole time!

We DO have a foster home lined up for Joel, but is is needing your help with funding his surgery which will cost about $1500....and he is looking for a forever mom and dad.  This big boy is a dream come true, and we want to do everything we can to give him the best rest of his life he could ever have!
